NATHANAEL LUM Exercise Physiologist - BAppSc (Exercise Physiology), AES, AEP, ESSAM
Nathanael graduated from the University of Sydney in 2015 and is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sport Science Australia. He has experience in private practice, workers compensation, and orthopedic hospital settings where he championed evidence-based and patient-centred care. He is passionate about using exercise to empower people and aiming to change perceptions and lifestyle rather than just treating symptoms. Nathanael wholeheartedly believes in the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. He has been training in Muay Thai kickboxing and boxing for 6 years out of the prestigious VT1 Martial Arts Academy where he is a member of the Elite Team. He found integrating boxing into clinical settings and rehabilitation improved physical, mental, and cognitive outcomes, increased engagement, and addressed fear-avoidant or pain-focused behaviour. Over the past 3 years, he has been involved in a program called ‘Knock Out Parkinson’s Disease’ (KOPD) as a boxing coach and clinical lead. The program utilises boxing in addition to strength and conditioning as an effective intervention for people with PD. In 2021, he was a team lead in the development of the Move Your Mind Exercise Program which aimed to improve function and quality of life of people with dementia and their carers. Nathanael specialises in treating chronic/persistent pain and neurological diseases. |
