ROBYN BIRCH B.Sc. Physiotherapy APAM

Robyn has extensive clinical experience and knowledge, having worked as a registered physiotherapist for over 30 years, after qualifying at University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1983.
 
She initially practised at Wynberg Military Hospital for 2 years, before transitioning into private practice and running her own successful clinic for 16 years in Cape Town employing a team of physiotherapists. Robyn has been employed at St Ives Physiotherapy & Sports Therapy Centre since migrating to Australia in 2001.
 
Robyn is a caring and passionate physiotherapist with a genuine love of treating her patients.
 
Robyn’s experience lies in treating musculoskeletal conditions and her areas of special interest and expertise include:
  • Spinal conditions (neck, thoracic and lumbar spine)
  • Sacro-iliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction and hip conditions
  • Chronic back pain assessment and management
  • Orthopaedic rehabilitation
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
  • Dry Needling for myofascial release and muscle energy techniques for treating lumbosacral conditions
  • Developing and running back rehabilitation exercise classes
 
Robyn attends numerous professional development courses and lectures in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, keeping abreast with evidence based physiotherapy and has attained various certifications and qualifications during her career including:
  • Post Graduate Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy (Level One) Examination in Spinal and Peripheral Manipulation.
  • Dry Needling certification
  • University of Sydney’s Skills Training Program in Pain Management (2015)
 
More recently, Robyn has worked in collaboration with Hillary Simon to develop and operate an innovative pain management program based on the latest research evidence developed by Royal North Shore Hospital, designed to improve function and quality of life of chronic pain patients.
 
Robyn also has a home visit clientele, assisting those who are unable to access the clinic.
